whoah scary, first time blogger and all that....now surely synchronised clapping at gigs is a very bad thing? I prefer to stand arms folded when such activity is underway.
I remember at Reading one year Beck stoped playing a song (I think it might have been Devils Haircut) because the audience were keeping such bad time.
He said, "if you can't do it properly you may as well not bother".
He started up again, and it being Reading people started clapping again, this time almost slow clapping. So he stopped the song and said, "okay if you want to take part lets try this"... and he went on to divide the audience into 4 parts and have an organised sing song. I have never in all my life heard a worse sound except on the latest James Blunt album.
they were doing it last night at Interpol...(is it still ok to like Interpol these days?)....and its usually the youngsters doing it.
Was similarly disappointed at Reading few years back when Electric Six (two good songs) covered a Queen song which generated a serious bout of synchronised calling.....definate case of the bar calling me then

Heh, I'm the guy who deliberately claps off the beat and tries to bring the whole thing crashing down.
We're not sea-lions, you know...

Was it "We Will Rock You" by any chance?
no, even worse than that, Radio ga-ga....perhaps they were being ironic, doing a Queen song
I went to see Chicago last night (corporate jolly...) and we did some synchronised clapping. But not at gigs, no I think that is wrong.
