In the words of Destiny's Child: Question.

'Ere, are we allowed to post links to mp3s on this blog? Along with the usual "Music posted for evaulation purposes only" disclaimer and links to online shops and that? Or is it something that we ought to just avoid altogether for fear of cease-and-desist letters?

Let's have a heated debate!

Or, instead, let's just gawp at this picture of the 'Child in the underwear they got for Christmas.

Why drag is evil and must be banned this Christmas

Moving on from the New Christmas Songs post, I'd like us all to suggest some truly woeful Christmas cover versions.

And I'd like to start the snowball (clang!) rolling with a seven-year-old child singing Let It Snow in the style of Liza Minnelli.

I'm so, so glad that I didn't have any talent when I was a sprog.

Your suggestions to top this please, preferably with links to YouTube!

New Christmas

With Alison complaining about the crop of current Christmas carols can't we create something better ourselves?

I'm not suggesting that we actually write new songs that sounds like far too much work. So why don't we change the words to existing Christmas songs by slamming as many popular references in as we can.

For example:

I wish it could be x-factor every day,
With Leon is singing,
and Simon being gay,
Oh I wish it could be x-factor ever day,
Let Dann-i, dry out, for Christmas.

I'm sure you can all do better - if I wasn't so hung over I'm sure I could do better too.

Have at it.

Seasonal Songs - are they always rubbish?

After hearing Mariah cunting Carey on the radio for the millionth tme today I was wondering if there are any good Christmas songs. I quite like the Phil Spector Christmas album I suppose, but I wouldn't really put it on by choice in my own home.

I did think of 2 songs I like, both of which are only reallyseasonal in that they mention snow, and weirdly both of which are album track cover versions where I've never heard the original:
Death Vessel - Snow Don't Fall (not sure who did the original, but I'm sure I read it was a cover)
Galaxie 500 - Listen the Snow is Falling (Yoko Ono originally I think)

Any other suggestions?

Moody Blues

"Moody is your buddy when you don't know exactly what you want to listen to. The times you would like to tell iTunes to just play me something soft. Or get this party started. You can play a shuffle from a genre, but a good mix is really more about energy than genre. With Moody you get streamlined shuffles in whatever mood you like."

Moody: Mac OS X / Windows app, mood tag your music in iTunes

Interesting. What colour / mood combinations would you choose?

Sea Green = Queasy After Too Many Tequilas
Royal Blue = But The Daily Mail IS The Truth!
Jet Black = I'm So Emo (And Nobody Cares If I Cry)

Carry on...

Beware Of The Apes

Whilst out and about in London recently, I stumbled across this poster for the forthcoming Boyzone reunion tour:

Album of the year

So as the end of the year approaches it's time to take stock (Aitken and Waterman can piss off).

What were your three favourite albums of the year and why?

Be kind, unsigned

Going to see unsigned bands is a bit hit and miss but I love it.

My favourite moment was when Nick and I realised that the only people watching the band with us were the lead singers parents at the Bull and Gate.

In some ways the most disapointing moment is when the bands get signed.

Anyway unless I know somebody in one of the bands I always say I am there to see the first band on the running order - at least it gives them something.

Talking of going to gigs of unsigned bands where you know somebody in the line up I'm going to see The Rigmarole tomorrow evening when they/he plays at 3one7 Bar - Finchley Road

Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger

Talking of Daft Punk:

And here are some more Lego music videos
