Greatest cover of all time

So clearly this:

is the greatest cover of all time. Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower.

So great, Dylan even plays it that way now. Go on, try and beat it...

OK, so first I've got to go for this:

Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit

Don't worry, I've got more.

I love that Ben Folds cover! (I loved it so much I sent it to you!)

You did. It's true.

OK, then how about:

Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart

On the subject of Neil Young covers how about:

Annie Lennox - Don't let it bring you down

Depends what you mean by 'cover', and 'greatest'. What about Dylan and Cash singing Girl from the North Country, does that count?

Or, Cake's I Will Survive (actually, maybe not).

Or, if we're talking Neil Young, how about the Pixies' version of Winterlong? Hmm.

Played to a cliche now, but what about:

How about:

Johnny Cash - Hurt

And:

The Animals - The House of the Rising Sun

The Breeders did a cracking cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun on their first album.

And I love Morrissey's cover of That's Entertainment.

Oooooh, yes, vote from me for The Breeders.

Of course we are tragically overlooking The Shirehorses wonderful canon of wide-ranging cover versions here, but I guess they might just tip us into the world of parody...

What about Jeff Buckley's 'Hallelujah'?

Re: Jeff Buckley -

That, to be fair, was K.W. Wan's post... but it's fair enough to vote for it twice...

A bit late to the party, but here's a Sonic Youth cover of the Carpenter's Superstar which is quite fetching.
