I could sing "In Rainbows"

So how much did you pay for Radiohead's In Rainbows, is it any good, or did you just not bother downloading it?

Hair We Go Again

Friday joke, shamelessly half-inched from pipbotch:

Q. What is Amy Winehouse's favourite tube station?
A. High Barnet.

Can you do better...?

Pigs Might Fly

Steinski alerts us to the passing of OiNK, closed file sharing site and quotes from an excellent post by Rob Sheridan:The Death Of OiNK

"...OiNK was not only an absolute paradise for music fans, but it was unquestionably the most complete and most efficient music distribution model the world has ever known ... If the music industry had found a way to capitalize on the power, devotion, and innovation of its own fans the way Oink did, it would be thriving right now instead of withering ... the music industry could never set aside their own greed and corporate bullshit to make it happen."

Synchronised clapping at gigs

whoah scary, first time blogger and all that....now surely synchronised clapping at gigs is a very bad thing? I prefer to stand arms folded when such activity is underway.

I'm so emo it hurts

In a telephone call with Tanned Albino just now the ideal emo anthem title: "I'm so emo it hurts" just came to me...

Immediately we knew that it could be a number 1 hit (#1 on the emo charts of course which is quite depressing).

Together we can write this sucker, 4 line verses style.

Guitar Hero III for the Wii

Just bought it today. My hands hurt and I've listened to more 70s rock than I care to admit, but damn it's good. I love pretending to be a guitar hero although in actual fact I'm just holding a cheap plastic guitar and pressing colour coded buttons.

Let me know if you've got it - I think we can trade riffs over Wifi or something.

It's Alive.

Bonne idée - pourquoi pas utilisé Le Blogosphere a faire votre publicité:

"Daft Punk's 'Alive 2007' is out on 4th December on enhanced CD video type thing from their gig at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in June this year. A decade of Daft Punk hits, dismantled and masterfully reassembled in front of your eyes. Awesome."

I love Daft Punk. They utterly rock. And they're French.

I wonder if they're on strike at the moment?

Greatest cover of all time

So clearly this:

is the greatest cover of all time. Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower.

So great, Dylan even plays it that way now. Go on, try and beat it...

Corporate Tie-In

Now we all hate a corporate tie-in, U2 selling out to ticketmaster, U2 selling out to Apple, U2 selling out to... I could go on...

But really it's time to pit your musical punning wits against the business world. Yeah that'll show 'em.

For example:

It's all Northern Rock and Roll to me

If I had a Hammerson

etc.

Dead Man Walking

Nine months or so ago, I was faffing about on eMusic with some free download credits and stumbled upon an album of dark ethereal 'dubstep' by a relatively unknown (but as it turns out, South London-based) producer calling himself Burial. It was awesome. Somewhat glitchy, the sound of urban decay shot through with distant late-night out-of-tune pirate radio and more than a hint of feral activity. Massive Attack on the Camberwell night bus. Excellent.

Anyway, I open METRO recently and LondonLite and thelondonpaper and even the Observer Music Monthly and they're all banging on about this secretive South London artist called Burial and how his second album is the awesome sound of late night London, he's the Banksy of the urban music world; four stars, five stars, must buy album of the week. And it reminded me that a) I'd really loved the first one and also b) that it was surprisingly brilliant on the playlist for the morning walk to work.

Personally, I don't really want the Scissor Sisters yawping their unique brand of 'fun' at me while I can barely open my eyes and the guy next to me is scratching his filthy armpit with a spirit level and the alarm didn't go off again and I shouldn't have had that fourth schnapps and my left shoelace snapped on the walk to the station and ... well, anyway, my question is this:

"Who do you have on your playlist for the walk to work?"

Oh, and don't forget to check out Burial. I really dig* it.

* Sorry about that.

You Made Me Realise

Oh. My. God.

ATP Concerts are very proud to present my bloody valentine who will return to play in Summer 2008 across the UK. The band will take to three cities London, Manchester and Glasgow. The following three dates have been announced:

Friday 20th June – London – The Roundhouse
Saturday 28th June – Manchester - Apollo
Wednesday 2nd July – Glasgow - Barrowland

Tickets go on-sale this Friday, November 16th

Right, I'm up for the Roundhouse gig - who's with me, fellow early-90s wall-of-sound burst-eardrum indie kids?

Look, just look (and listen, obviously):

Punkupine

With Boyzone joining the Spice Girls and Take That on tour the most commonly leveled criticism is that these are manufactured music groups. It has to be remembered that manufactured doesn't always mean bad. Malcolm McLaren manufactured the Sex Pistols after all. Actually they've just announced a tour as well.

The main reason most of this kind of bad have a bad reputation is because they are rubbish. But some manufacture bands can create great music:

Sing. Sing A Songza. Make It Simple. Etc.

Fancy using a music search page that just works? And plays the tracks it finds right there in the page? And lets you rate the audio quality* of the track? Or share with a friend? Perhaps embed in your site? And has a lovely interface to boot? OK, then, head over to arblognot and follow your nose:

Go on, enjoy.

Honey! I've Turned into a cliche!

I get so tied up trying to find bands no one has heard of i lose any concept of whether they are actually any good or not.

I'm pretty sure this lot are quite good though. This song at least...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUeHDyy6Xhs

Came by them after they were down to support Fujiya and miyagi

Support shock

So I went to see this woman at Hawkston Bar and Grill last night...

Her name is Marit Bergman, and she is Swedish. That was all my good friend Stewart needed to tell me to convince me to attend.

How embarrassing, then, that I stood through her entire set in the genuine belief that I was watching her shit support act.

Has this happened to anybody else?

(I'm starting to like the song above quite a bit, mind you.)

Penny Lane?

Videos with more than a minute and a half intro

Here are some...

3 MCs and 1 DJ - Beastie Boys

Brown Boxes - The Spinto Band

Thriller - Michael Jackson

There isn't a real embeddable version of that last one, but this link will work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyJbIOZjS8- as he says - "I'm not like other guys".

New Musical Espresso

I like going to Virgin Megastore* in my breaks and listening to thirty second clips of songs on new albums. This week: The Hives, Black and White Album, and The Killers, Sawdust. Based on my half-minute overhearings, through much used and probably urinated upon earphones, I'd say The Killers have the better album. And that's saying something since it's an album of B-sides and rare recordings. Has anyone paid money to hear more and give an actual reputable review? The piano version of Sam's Town sounds great.

*What the hell is going on with the store by Tottenham Court Road tube? Zavvi?

Math-Rap

Today I've been loving these popular rap songs rendered into maths type stuff:
http://www.jamphat.com/rap/

Perhaps this is how to get the local hoodies to stay in school instead of skulking around on the streets near my house.

Candyman - Christina Aguilera

Candyman - Christina Aguilera

Have I lost it - or is this quite good?

Underground Music

Normally Music and the London Underground go together exactly like oil and something not unlike water but in this game your task is to slam the two together to create something new. Yes it's Music Vs. the London Underground... What have you got?
