With Boyzone joining the Spice Girls and Take That on tour the most commonly leveled criticism is that these are manufactured music groups. It has to be remembered that manufactured doesn't always mean bad. Malcolm McLaren manufactured the Sex Pistols after all. Actually they've just announced a tour as well.
The main reason most of this kind of bad have a bad reputation is because they are rubbish. But some manufacture bands can create great music:

I hate the "manufactured" argument. There are thousands of shite indie bands around, for example, and plenty of people who don't perform but write cracking tunes for their muses.
Let's face it - which of the two is better?
a) The fucking awful America by Razorlight
b) The fucking amazing No Good Advice by Girls Aloud
No contest.
Alex you can tick the "Response from Joe" box now :)

On the other hand I do fear the excesses of "manufactured" at the other end.
I love Cathy Dennis when she writes Toxic for Britney, but remember she also sings the growl at the end of the Pop Idol music. It's double edged...
