Doing what nobody else was at the time, inventing (and then taking the piss out of) the Nu-Rave genre and forcing me to listen to the album over and over again, in a way I hadn't experienced since the days of my Cure infatuation...
Imagine being on an early morning bus, driving past the half-open fire exit doors of every nightclub in South London, whilst the guy in front of you flicks the speaker on his mobile on and off. Nuff said. Awesome.
OK, it was somewhat similar to the first album, but if you want to get this cut 'n' paste jump up block party started, this is where you begin. They've got two drummers. Adam And The Ants had two drummers. I rest my case.
And my highly commended are:
"Mirrored" - Battles Spiderman Of The Rings" - Dan Deacon "†" - Justice "Kala" - M.I.A. "Tangled Up" - Girls Aloud
And for 2008? Look no further than Foals. Trust me...
Version - Mark Ronson (feat. Various) Where was Mark Ronson before this year? Well physically I don't know but then nobody other than Mark does because in fame terms he was nowhere. Great little album shame about Robbie Williams.
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse My Mark Ronson fanboy status is confirmed with this one. It's the bells I tell you, the bells! I liked her first album but this one changed my view of her so much that I actually went back and rerated (in my head) the first one. Great stuff.
Yours to keep - Albert Hammond Jr Right so what are the rules on this? It didn't actually come out this year but at the tail end of last year instead. But although Nick told me to listen to it all the way back then I only just got round to it a few months ago. Anyway he's similar to Ben Kweller who actually appears here (think guitar based Ben Folds if that helps). If you're wondering where you know the name of Mr Hammond from he's in the Strokes innit? No he doesn't sound like the strokes here confusing huh.
Since I was ordered to answer this question by Alex here is my answer. I'm a bit slow off the mark though, I'm sure these all came out in 2006. You'll have to wait till next year for my 2007 choices.
CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy - even reading the songtitles puts a smile on my face.
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped - I do love Sonic Youth, and this is their best album in ages. Do you believe in rapture? is my most listened to song on Lastfm.
Gosh that is a long list - I don't think I've heard 35 new songs this year. As for Kate Nash I had a temporary obsession with Foundations but after listening to it about 8 times on the run I was cured and got back to just being irritated by her accent.
I got the Asobi Seksu album after reading it was a mix of MBV and St Etienne. I'm not sure its quite that, but its good. Nefi and Girly might be my favourite song, or Walk on the Moon.
I'm just listening to Burial on your recommendation, sounding great so far...
1) The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You 2) Dragonette - Galore 3) Shiny Toy Guns - We Are Pilots 4) Maia Hirasawa - Though, I'm Just Me 5) Robyn - Robyn (although I nearly smugly counted this as 2005 as I have the original Swedish release *sniffs*) 6) Justice - Cross 7) Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? 8) Spray - Children Of A Laser God 9) Roisin Murphy - Overpowered 10) M.I.A. - Kala
Also good: The Donnas, The Go! Team, Sarah Nixey, Patrick Wolf, NYPC, Chungking.
Singles:
1) Alphabeat - Fascination 2) Girls Aloud - Call The Shots 3) The Sounds - Tony The Beat (Rex The Dog Remix) 4) Roisin Murphy - Overpowered 5) Sophie Ellis Bextor - Catch You 6) Maia Hirasawa - And I Found This Boy 7) The Delays - Love Made Visible 8) Robyn - With Every Heartbeat 9) M.I.A. - Jimmy 10) Shiny Toy Guns - You Are The One
Also ace: Feist - 1234, All Saints - Chick Fit (Kissy Sell Out Remix), Chungking - Love Will Save The Day, Roisin Murphy - Let Me Know, Justice - D.A.N.C.E., Hello Saferide - I Was Definitely Made For These Times, The Ark - The Worrying Kind, NYPC - The Bomb, Bertine Zetlitz - Ashamed
Disappointment of the year:
Girls Aloud - Tangled Up. Still not really feeling it I'm afraid - and that's pretty heartbreaking after Chemistry (which FYI is the most ingeniously-structured, cleverly-produced and jaw-droppingly imaginative album since Pet Sounds)...

We're not ignoring you, I can't decide between Girls Aloud and Sugababes...
Pigeon Detectives, don't know what its called.....why? because its simple no-nonsense punky pop....can't think of 2 others at moment
Ok, I am going for:
1. 'Myths Of The Near Future' - Klaxons
Doing what nobody else was at the time, inventing (and then taking the piss out of) the Nu-Rave genre and forcing me to listen to the album over and over again, in a way I hadn't experienced since the days of my Cure infatuation...
2. 'Untrue' - Burial
Imagine being on an early morning bus, driving past the half-open fire exit doors of every nightclub in South London, whilst the guy in front of you flicks the speaker on his mobile on and off. Nuff said. Awesome.
3. 'Proof Of Youth' - The Go! Team

I'm going to go with (in no particular order)

CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy - even reading the songtitles puts a smile on my face.
Asobi Seksu - Asobi Seksu - White noise, dreamy female vocals, lovely.
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped - I do love Sonic Youth, and this is their best album in ages. Do you believe in rapture? is my most listened to song on Lastfm.
Yes, CSS do rock the party. Good call!
And someone else mentioned Asobi Seksu the other day, not heard it yet. But I will now.
As an aside, here is Andrew Collins (of "... & Maconie") and his top, er, some:
Everybody Loves You Here
Slightly disagree about Kate Nash, that is definitely a Curate's egg in my opinion (and that's no yolk). And no Girls Aloud!

Oh I really liked the CSS album too, although I could have sworn it was last year...
